Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing high-quality, low-cost food to families and individuals in communities throughout the United States. The program began with 34 families in Monroe, Georgia in 1994, and has grown to serve tens of thousands of families across the United States. Angel Food Ministries crosses all denominational lines and serves as an excellent tool to share the Gospel of Christ to the community.

AFM is a non-profit, volunteer-supported outreach ministry is available monthly through Cicero Christian Church as a host site.

Ordering Procedure

Beginning with August, 2009 orders, it is no longer necessary to purchase a signature, senior/convenience or allergen-free box to qualify to purchase a "special." You may purchase any number of any unit or special.

Beginning with November 2008 orders, use the following procedure to place orders for Angel Food.

  1. Pick up your menu from the Angel Food table just inside the front doors of Cicero Christian Church, or download the menu from the yellow box in the upper right.
  2. Fill out the order form, attach your cash or money order to the order form, place it in an envelope and drop it in the drop box inside the front doors of Cicero Christian Church.
  3. This drop box will be emptied daily and orders processed.
  4. Please make every attempt to include proper change with your order. IF change is needed, you will be able to pick it up on Distribution Day.
  5. Your yellow receipt will be waiting for you at the Check In station on Distribution Day.
  6. When picking up your order, you may be asked to show ID. Please do not be offended. We want to ensure that the person who placed the order is the one picking up the order.
  7. IF someone else is picking up your order, you MUST note this on your order form.
  8. If ordering with FOOD STAMPS, you must come to the church office during the work day Monday-Friday.

Blessings by the Box…

Signature Box

Food from the Angel Food’s menus are sold by the unit at $30 per unit. Each month’s menu consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $60 or more. One unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week, or a single senior citizen for almost a month. The food is all the same high quality one would purchase at a common retailer - not damaged or outdated goods. There is no limit to the number of units an individual can purchase, and there are no applications or qualifications.

Seniors/Convenience Box

For people on the go, or those who want convenient, one-serve meals. All ten individual meals are fully-cooked and labeled complete with heating instructions – just heat and serve. Each meal has no added sodium, is low in fat, and is nutritionally balanced for seniors with 3 oz. of protein, two vegetables or fruit, and a starch. $28 per box. One ordered box qualifies for ordering one of the specials offered for the month.

Allergen-Free Box

New in March 2009, the items in this box are processed to eliminate the eight top serious allergens: Peanuts, Soybeans, Milk, Eggs, Fish, Crustacea, Tree Nuts and Gluten (wheat, rye and barley). Great for children and adults! $25 per box.

Specials

Each month several "special" boxes are offered, from steaks for the grill, to an assortment of fruit and vegetables. You are no longer required to place an order for a signature, Senior/Convenience or Allergen-Free box to qualify to order any number of the specials.

How the Program Works

Food sales and distribution are handled by church host sites. Cicero Christian Church was approved to be a host site in January, 2008. Orders and payments are collected by the host sites during the first part of each month, then turned in to the Angel Food main office in Monroe, Georgia on a predetermined date. The following week the host site picks up the food from Angel Food’s local distribution center to fill the orders on distribution day. In some cases, food can be delivered to the host site (we must have at least 700 units ordered to qualify for delivery to our host site).

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible?

EVERYONE is eligible to participate in Angel Food Ministries. No eligibility requirements are necessary.

How much does it cost?

Each month AFM will offer a menu consisting of a variety of meat, fresh vegetables and non-perishable foods for the low cost of $30. Each menu (called a unit) lists 17-19 items. Additionally, people have the choice to select from 3-4 monthly specials for an additional low cost (i.e. 4 lb. steak combo box for $22).

How much can I order?

You can order as many units or specials as you choose. It is no longer necessary to order a signature box to qualify for a special.

Can I place an order as a gift/donation?

Yes. Even if you choose not to place an order for yourself, you may order food to give to someone else as a blessing. Because Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit organization, food purchased to donate to someone in need may be fully tax deductible as a charitable donation. If you choose to donate money for Angel Food to place an order for someone in need, you may do so with a check through the church offering or office, payable to Cicero Christian Church and labeled for Angel Food donation. Checks are not acceptable as payment for an actual order.

How do I place an order?

You may obtain a monthly order form from the front entrance foyer at Cicero Christian Church, or online at www.CiceroChristianChurch.org. Fill out order form and turn it in, with payment, to the church office by the cutoff date (check the "order by" date on the schedule to the left). You will receive a receipt for your order to show on distribution day. Orders will not be processed without payment in advance.

Do I have to order every month to participate?

No. You may order any month that you choose. You fill out a new order form every month.

How do I pay for my order?

When order is placed, pay with cash or money order made out to Cicero Christian Church. You may drop your order off in the lock box in the main entrance with cash or money order and the order form in an envelope. The box is emptied daily. If you do not have exact change you will be given change when you pick up your order. You may pay with food stamps, but you must pay through the church office, who works Monday through Thursday, from 9am to 4pm or Friday 9am to 1pm.

How do I pick up an order?

Beginning in January 2010, come to Cicero Christian Church between 9am and 10am on the distribution day (usually the third or fourth Saturday of the month – check the schedule monthly.) Bring your receipt, along with a large box or laundry basket, to pick up your food. If you don't pick up your food, it will be distributed to the needy.

Check in at registration and move through the line to have your box packed with your order. When you check out you’ll receive the menu for the next month. You’re done in less than 10 minutes!

You may place and pay for your order for the next month when you pick up your current order.
